97 flights cancelled, over 200 others delayed in Delhi due to low visibility, smog

DELHI'S AIR QUALITY RATED 'VERY POOR'Meanwhile, air quality in the national capital remained a concern, with the Air Quality Index recorded in the "very poor" category at 386 on Sunday morning, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Data showed that air quality across the city remained alarming, with 16 monitoring stations recording AQI levels in the "severe" category, while the remaining stations reported "very poor" air. Under CPCB norms, AQI readings are classified as "good" between 0 and 50, "satisfactory" from 51 to 100, "moderate" from 101 to 200, "poor" from 201 to 300, "very poor" from 301 to 400, and "severe" between 401 and 500. Weather conditions added to the challenges, with the minimum temperature settling at 9.4 degrees Celsius, around 1.3 degrees above the seasonal average. Relative humidity stood high at 91 per cent at 8.30 am, according to the India Meteorological Department.
• The IMD said the maximum temperature is likely to remain near 17 degrees Celsius and issued a yellow alert for moderate fog. FLIGHT DISRUPTIONS ALSO REPORTED IN SRINAGARMeanwhile, flight operations were also hit in the region, with at least 11 flights cancelled at Srinagar International Airport due to snowfall in higher areas and rain in the plains. An Airports Authority of India (AAI) official said two additional flights scheduled to operate to Srinagar were also called off because of weather-related issues at Jammu and Delhi airports. The disruptions were caused by snowfall in the higher reaches of Kashmir and moderate rainfall in the plains. The official said four flights were on standby at the airport apron, while two more were expected to arrive later in the day.
