Big relief for Chandrababu Naidu as court dismisses FiberNet case against him

Apart from Naidu, those named as accused included the then FiberNet Corporation chairman Vemuri Harikrishna, managing director K Sambasiva Rao, Terrasoft director Tummala Gopalakrishna, and several software companies based in Mumbai and Delhi along with their senior officials. In February 2024, the Andhra Pradesh CID filed a chargesheet before the Vijayawada ACB court, naming Naidu as the main accused in what it described as a Rs 114-crore scam.
• The CID had alleged that the tender process for Phase-1 of the AP FiberNet project, valued at around Rs 330 crore, was manipulated to favour certain companies. According to the chargesheet, Naidu, who was chief minister at the time and also held the energy, infrastructure and investment portfolio, had personally recommended execution of the FiberNet project.
• The agency alleged that estimates were approved without proper market surveys and that senior officials were pressured to revoke the blacklisting of a company and include preferred individuals in tender evaluation committees. The CID had further claimed that the accused diverted misappropriated funds through a network of companies using fake invoices.
