AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWith two matches still left to play—the third-place playoff and the final—AFCON 2025 has already shattered the goals record, establishing itself as the most prolific edition ever. With 120 goals, this tournament surpasses the total of the 2023 edition held in Côte d’Ivoire (119 goals). That edition had set the previous record following the expansion to 24 teams since 2019. The average number of goals per match stands at 2.45 (120 in 49 games). The official record will be confirmed on January 18 after the final. Before AFCON 2023, the record belonged to the 2008 edition, when 103 goals were scored in just 32 matches, as only 16 teams competed that year.
