That was part of the reason some sections of the fanbase called on the team to embrace a tanking season this summer, especially with the uncertainty surrounding Jayson Tatum’s return from his Achilles tendon injury. Boston opted against a tanking season and has been one of the more surprising teams in the Eastern Conference, building an 18-11 record and occupying the third seed in the East. As such, the Celtics likely will pick in the late 20s when the 2026 NBA Draft rolls around next summer.
