Ex-Saint Blake Grupe eager to play 'meaningful football' with new team

Grupe won an opportunity to kick for the Indianapolis Colts this week after trying out alongside other free agents, and he didn't waste any time ingratiating himself to his new team. Grupe told Colts media Wednesday that he had been impressed with the team's success from afar, and that he's excited to join them: "To now be a part of it and, you know, feel like I'm playing meaningful football, and that we're all working towards something here together."AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThat may not be an uncommon opinion among former Saints players who have joined teams with better records, but let's not act like Grupe didn't have opportunities to help the black and gold play more meaningful football. If he didn't lead the NFL in missed field goals this year (8) or second-most since the Saints gave him the job (19), they probably have a better record and he probably doesn't get cut. But it is what it is.
