- Sudheer Babu said the advisory was issued in view of the increased risk of thefts during the holiday period and appealed to the public to take adequate precautions to safeguard their homes and belongings.
- Citizens have been advised to ensure that all doors, windows and grills are secured with strong and reliable locks before leaving, and to avoid keeping cash, jewellery and other valuables at home, preferring bank lockers instead.
- People have also been advised to conceal door locks using curtains at the main entrance, use automatic timers to switch lights on at intervals to create the appearance of occupancy, and, where possible, request relatives or family friends to stay in their houses during the holiday period.
- The police have urged residents to inform trusted neighbours and seek their help in keeping a watch on their houses, and to coordinate with security personnel, watchmen and Resident Welfare Associations in apartments, residential complexes and gated communities for closer surveillance.
