PTIHead coach Gautam Gambhir has lashed out at criticism over the Indian team’s recent Test whitewash at the hands of South Africa and went into a rant over a suggestion by an “IPL team owner” that the Men in Blue should opt for “split coaching” for different formats. Gambhir had been combative during the post-match press conference after India suffered a 408-run thrashing in the second Test in Guwahati, which resulted in South Africa completing a 2-0 sweep and winning a Test series on Indian soil for only the second time, after a 25-year gap. But the most surprising thing is that no one – no media, no journal – wrote that we played the first Test match without a captain, who didn’t bat in both innings,” Gambhir told reporters during Saturday’s press conference at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
