The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved an $8.1 billion loan for Ukraine over four years, as the country faces a significant economic crisis exacerbated by its ongoing conflict with Russia. The IMF will disburse an initial $1.5 billion immediately, but this amount falls short of Ukraine's needs, which include an estimated budget deficit of $52 billion for 2026 and a total of $136.5 billion over the next four years. The shortfall is expected to be addressed through donor support, particularly from the EU and the G7.
