Story byCameron Ohnysty, Aggies WireThu, December 4, 2025 at 11:04 AM UTC·2 min readOn Wednesday, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko and his staff were entirely focused on the 2026 recruiting class, as all of the program's 26 commits officially signed with the Aggies, representing Texas A&M's future on the football field just weeks after Elko signed his six-year extension to stay put in College Station. However, one piece of news on Early Signing Day was that second-year offensive coordinator Collin Klein is expected to take over as Kansas State's head coach after the 2025 season, when current coach Chris Klieman is expected to retire, reportedly placing Klein at the top of the list as the next replacement. AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementFor those younger than I am, Collin Klein cemented himself as one of Kansas State's best players in program history. He was a Heisman Trophy finalist during former Texas A&M star quarterback Johnny Manziel's 2012 Heisman-winning campaign. During his early coaching years, Klein returned to K-State to serve as the team's quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator from 2017 to 2023, gaining valuable experience before moving to Texas A&M. Over the last two years, Klein's run-heavy, multiple-scheme finished as the 20th-ranked unit, averaging over 454 yards, while redshirt sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed finished the regular season with a career high 2,932 yards, 25 touchdowns, and over 400 rushing yards and six scores. Klein has done all he can do with the Aggies and is more than prepared to take on his next challenge as a head coach.
