Kerala to make plans to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, propose four new Ramsar wetlands

Key Highlights

• As part of steps to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts and expand green cover, the government will roll out landscape-level macro plans and panchayat-level micro plans in conflict-prone areas during 2026–27.
• To support these efforts, the government plans decentralised resource mobilisation from commercial users of biological resources in collaboration with local self-government institutions.
• The government also plans to widen access to forest-related knowledge through partnerships with thelibrary council and historical research council.
• The Governor added that an alternate Emergency Operations Centre is being set up in Thiruvananthapuram, alongside the adoption of advanced risk modelling for the Pampa and Chaliyar river basins.
• Future preparedness measures include (Internet of Things)-based landslide monitoring systems in Pathanamthitta and the establishment of dedicated crowd management systems at major pilgrimage centres.
