Norfolk Police was called to the A11 at Thetford, Norfolk at about 20:35 GMT on Sunday when a man, believed to be the driver of one of the two vehicles, left the scene holding what was described as a handgun. Armed response officers attended and the suspect was subsequently shot by police from "a short distance away". The force said that despite the efforts of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the incident, the A11 London Road remained closed in both directions.
