This comes amid confirmation that the Blaugrana have been pitted against 2nd-tier outfit Albacete. Albacete have for their part already made a major splash in this season’s Spanish cup, courtesy of a shock victory over Real Madrid. Just last week, in the first outing of the Álvaro Arbeloa era, Los Blancos were condemned to a last-gasp 3-2 defeat in Castilla-La Mancha. Albacete, in turn, will set about making history once more early next month. Turning focus towards the remainder of the Copa del Rey draw, Deportivo Alavés will play host to Real Sociedad, Valencia and Athletic Club have been scheduled to do battle at Mestalla, whilst Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid face a trip to Real Betis.
