And what a collective performance it was. Less than 72 hours after posting 23 assists and 16 steals in a 76-17 win over Wellston, Amy Hughes' group put together a similar blitzkrieg against the Adena Warriors' girls basketball program. AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementPortsmouth ultimately put four players in double figures and had seven players score six points or more as the Lady Trojans, led by 20 points, seven steals and seven rebounds by Keke Woods and 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists from Sienna Allen, jumped out to a 23-0 first quarter lead in a 73-19 win over the Lady Warriors in a Division V District Semifinal at Waverly High School in Waverly. Claiming a 54-point win just three days after notching a 59-point triumph, the outcome, as the score indicated, was never in doubt from the opening tip. But even by Portsmouth's standards, Saturday's victory was impressive. After battling the first 2:44 without a point from either side, the Lady Trojans scored all 23 of their opening quarter points in the first quarter's final 5:16. AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWoods and Sienna Allen did much of the damage in an incredible display that saw the Lady Trojans force 11 Adena turnovers in the opening quarter and hold the Lady Warriors without a field goal in the frame. Adena didn't score in the quarter until a pair of free throws from the Lady Warriors' Marley Halcomb with 24.6 seconds remaining in the frame finally put Adena on the board. By the end of the first quarter, Allen had 11 points, four rebounds and two steals while Woods notched eight points, four steals, two assists and two rebounds herself."Our team revolves around defense," Woods said. "We play great collective defense because we know that without it, we can't generate anything offensively. We start there, and then our offense gets rolling."AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementHayven Carter added in the remaining four points in the first eight minutes of action. Woods then scored each of the first five points in the second quarter to go along with four rebounds, moving her line to 13 points, five rebounds and four steals in the opening 10 minutes of the game. By the time Allen scored on a breakway off of her own steal to match Woods with 13 points and four steals herself, the contest had essentially been decided at this point with Portsmouth ahead by a 30-2 margin. The Lady Trojans were up by 28 points.
