Moncada, 30, made his name as a prospect with Boston, ultimately making his debut with the organization before being traded to the Chicago White Sox — where he had an up-and-down tenure that included seasons where he slashed .315/.367/.548 (2019) and .212/.273/.353 (2022). The Angels have now brought him aboard on consecutive one-year deals, with the hope that he can tap back into the potential that once made him the top prospect in baseball. Boston has now been tied to numerous infielders, with Moncada being the latest in a string that includes Alex Bregman (Chicago Cubs), Bo Bichette (New York Mets), Isaac Paredes (Houston Astros), Brendan Donovan (St. Louis Cardinals) and Nico Hoerner (Cubs) — with the latter three thought to be available via trade.
