For this one, though, there won't have to be much get-to-know-you small talk once the meeting gets underway. The team will formally interview defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton to be their fourth defensive coordinator in four years, per a Monday report from Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, who cited sources. AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe Cowboys fired Matt Eberflus last week; the former DC was largely responsible for the team's disappointing 7-9-1 campaign despite having one of the NFL's top offenses. The 2025 season was Whitecotton's first year as defensive line coach in Dallas, though he had previously held the same title with the Jets for four seasons and had been an assistant with San Francisco Buffalo, and Jacksonville prior to that in an NFL career dating back to 2013. Whitecotton, 44, was instrumental in helping to turn around the Cowboys' D-line after being among the league's worst in 2024. Most notable was his prior connection with defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, who he had coached in New York.
