Story byMark Mihalko, Titans WireSun, December 21, 2025 at 2:51 PM UTC·2 min readThe Tennessee Titans’ front office is quietly working to pare down their list of potential head coaching candidates, and with every passing day, it seems like new names are floated by both fans and insiders when the subject comes up. The latest national reporter to drop a nugget is Dianna Russini of The Athletic, who reports that the Titans view Matt Nagy as a "serious candidate." Russini also reports that several defensive names are on the early list. Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi and president of football operations Chad Brinker are leading the organization’s head coaching search, and I’m told their list is taking shape. Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is viewed internally as a serious candidate. Nagy will be in Nashville on Sunday with Kansas City, but NFL rules state there can’t be any job discussions. Tennessee also plans to reach out to several defensive coordinators, including the Indianapolis Colts’ Lou Anarumo, the Green Bay Packers’ Jeff Hafley, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Anthony Campanile, the Rams’ Chris Shula, the Houston Texans’ Matt Burke, and the Chargers’ Jesse Minter. As is often the case with defensive-minded candidates, the Titans’ first question will revolve around offensive staff construction, specifically, who these men would hire as offensive coordinator. While this defensive approach may come as a surprise to fans focused solely on the offense and Cam Ward’s development, the Titans' defense has more to work with at the moment. They are a couple of pieces away from being one of the better units in the league and have an established star to build around. Tennessee took a risk with Brian Callahan, and the entire responsibility of running the team while moonlighting as the offensive coordinator/playcaller quickly led to his demise.
