- According to a report by OUInsider and On3, Director of Sports Enhancement and Strength and Conditioning Jerry Schmidt "is shifting to a role as Chief of Staff." OUInsider is also reporting that former Chief of Staff Woody Glass is "stepping away from the program."AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAccording to OUInsider, Schmidt's replacement is his right-hand man, Associate Director of Sports Performance James Dobson.
- Oklahoma's strength staff also includes Scott Kolok, Josue Matias, and Reggie McGrew, and it's unsure at this time if one of them, or someone else, will replace Dobson in his former role. Glass had been Oklahoma's Special Assistant to the Head Coach in 2022, before being promoted to Chief of Staff when his predecessor, Thad Turnipseed, who was the Executive Director of Football Administration, stepped away from the program in 2023.
- His role will now be occupied by Schmidt, who has a long history with the Sooners. Schmidt came to Oklahoma in 1999 with former head coach Bob Stoops from Florida, and he worked at OU until 2017.
- Former head coach Lincoln Riley decided to go in a different direction at strength coach ahead of his second season in charge in 2018, settling on Bennie Wylie to replace Schmidt.
- Meanwhile, Schmidt served as the strength coach at Texas A&M from 2018 to 2021. AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementHowever, when Wylie followed Riley to USC, Schmidt came back to Oklahoma as the strength coach in 2022, and had been in that role since then.
