At close, the Sensex crashed by 250.48 points or 0.30 percent to 83,627.69, and the Nifty shed by 57.95 points or 0.22 pc to 25,732.30. The BSE Midcap index slipped 0.16 pc, but the Smallcap index strongly outperformed, rising 0.46 pc.
