The woman had joined a private physiotherapy centre to complete her internship under a man identified as Karthikeyan.

- While travelling in the car, he is said to have offered her a soft drink that was allegedly spiked with an intoxicating substance.
- The woman reportedly lost consciousness and was sexually assaulted.
- After regaining consciousness, she informed her sister, following which the family approached the Kolathur All Women Police Station and filed a complaint. Based on the complaint and preliminary inquiry, police arrested Karthikeyan on charges of sexual assault.
