Texas A&M rises six spots in the NET rankings after defeating Texas

After falling to Tennessee on the road 87-82 in double-overtime on Tuesday night, having to stay on the road and face a Texas team coming off massive wins over Alabama and Vanderbilt was the toughest of tasks, but thanks to first-year head coach Bucky McMillan's mid-game adjustments, Texas A&M's unselfish play, elite shooting, and physicality on defense kept the Longhorns at bay in the second-half. AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAgee and Griffen's 34 points obviously led the conversation, and while the Aggies lost the rebounding battle 37-30, this was a much better deficit than the 60-35 differential against Tennessee, and led to more scoring opportunities. With this win, the Aggies are back on track and tied for first in the SEC with the Florida Gators before hosting Mississippi State and South Carolina in back-to-back home games next week. After the victory, McMillan's team moved up six spots in the NET rankings to No. 42, which is the team's highest ranking of the season, earning the second Quad 1 win, and possessing zero "bad losses" with a 9-0 record in Quad 3 and Quad 4 games. With consecutive home games before a mini bye week, the Aggies are in a prime position solidify their NCAA Tournament résumé, and, possibly, contend for an SEC regular season title, as crazy as that may sound given where this team stood when Bucky McMillan took over the program.
