Earlier on Thursday, the Madras High Court dismissed a letters patent appeal filed by the District Collector and the City Police Commissioner, upholding a single-judge’s directions permitting devotees to light the lamp at the Arulmigu Subramania Swamy temple. advertisementOn December 1, Justice GR Swaminathan had ruled that the Arulmigu Subramania Swamy temple is obligated to light the lamp at the Deepathoon, in addition to the lamp traditionally lit near the Uchi Pillaiyar Mandapam, and noted that doing so would not infringe the rights of the nearby Dargah or the Muslim community.
