State prioritises multi-modal transport infrastructure

Key Highlights

• The State government remains hopeful that construction will commence in 2026, with commissioning targeted for 2029–30.
• Similarly, the semi-high-speed rail project has been accorded top priority and is being pursued in mission mode.
• In addition, new railway links such as Thalassery–Mysuru and Nilambur–Nanjangud are being advanced at the detailed project report stage to strengthen inter-State connectivity, the Governor said.
• In the road sector, the government plans to upgrade 1,200 km of major district roads to bituminous macadam and bituminous concrete standards and to widen State highways in the coming year.
• Sustainable construction practices are being promoted through a reclaimed asphalt pavement pilot project implemented in collaboration with IIT Madras.
